Over the course of 2 semesters, 2 groups of St. Rose students learned the technology skills to create web pages that document the work of New Scotland Elementary students. It's pretty clear that these pre-service educators have gained new skills and, in the process, become intrigued by service learning, project based learning, and educational technology. Please click on their names to meet these dynamic and dedicated educators!
" . . . students learn by actively seeking and creating knowledge through social interactions with other learners, self-regulation, and solving authentic problems in realistic contexts. What this means in a school setting is that students are actively engaged in learning. They are asking questions, participating discussions, staying on task, and producing products." ~Yvette
"To a certain extent standardized testing is appropriate, but in reality the states drill students with an abundance of standardized tests and forget about performance assessments. I am an advocate for performance assessments that coexist with traditional assessments when necessary. To successfully obtain a measurement of student knowledge, the educators need to evaluate the students across all academic domains such as mathematics, reading, science, social studies, writing, behavior, communicative interactions, etc. Every student is going to excel in different subjects and need support in others. For these reasons, performance assessments need to be used to assess the students in all areas while creating less stress for them to function and demonstrate their true knowledge." ~Jessica
